Refuse Collection Update

Now that waste collections have started again, the council is aiming to reach all households on their usual collection day.

If the weather continues to improve, the council intends to collect grey bins, blue bins and green bags next week.

Any collections of the grey bin missed today (Friday Jan 15) in the Ramsbottom area will be mopped-up on Monday, so residents need to put their grey bin and any extra bags of rubbish out again first thing on Monday morning.

Brown bin collections are still suspended so that we can put extra effort into clearing the backlog of other waste.

    Refuse Collections Update

Bury Council is making regular waste collections again following disruption caused to the service during the prolonged severe weather conditions.

Collection crews are aiming to reach all households on their usual collection day. They will collect the grey bins, blue bins and green bags. They will also take extra bags of rubbish.

Brown bin collections are currently suspended in order to concentrate on clearing the backlog of household waste and other types of recycling.

Glenn Stuart, head of waste management, said: “Our crews are aiming to get to people’s properties on the scheduled day but where this isn’t possible we will do our very best to return the following day. Residents need to be aware that collections may be earlier or later in the day as we catch up with the backlog. Our crews have been doing a sterling job in atrocious conditions and deserve our thanks.”

The service was postponed due to the dangerous road conditions. Collections of the grey bin were reinstated last week (ending Jan 15), with crews reaching as many households as they could in the circumstances.

Street cleansing staff were also out helping refuse collection crews by picking up extra bags of rubbish and pulling bins to the nearest collection points.

Many bins which were missed were collected later in the week, and on the following Monday (Jan 18).
    Residents are requested to:
    * Put your bins and bags out at the kerbside by 7am on your usual collection day (and week, in the case of the recycling bins and bags).
    * Put any extra rubbish into black bags so that your bin lid is fully closed.
    * Tie your black bags firmly to avoid spillages.
    * Put extra recycling that won’t fit into your blue bin inside a cardboard box and place it next to your bin.
    * Keep your bins and bags clear of obstacles such as parked vehicles.

To check which day your bins are due for collection, log onto the council’s website at http://www.bury.gov.uk/binandbagcollections.
