Bury Council is to start collecting regular household waste tomorrow (Tuesday January 12) following a period of suspension due to the severe weather.

Collection crews will aim to reach all households this week on their usual collection day. The intention is to collect grey bins, and also extra bags of rubbish.

Blue bins (which take plastic, glass and metal) and green bag (paper) collections are suspended tomorrow (Tuesday January 12) in order to concentrate on clearing the backlog of general household waste: however, it is hoped that some of these bins may be collected later in the week.

Brown bin (garden waste) collections are suspended until further notice.

A council spokesman said: “Our crews will do their best to get to people’s properties, and we ask residents to allow extra time for these collections to be made because of road and footpath conditions.

“If we cannot get to your property to empty your bin, please return your bins and bags to your property and put them out again the following week on your usual collection day. Please be assured that we are doing our best under extremely difficult conditions.”

All Household Recycling Centres are open from 8am to 6pm where you can take any excess waste.
