Bury Council have dedicated extra resources to the area around Heaton Park to ensure that any litter created by people attending the concert is cleared.
The council will be sending out teams of manual litter pickers and mechanical sweepers to tackle any litter issues. Arrangements have been put in place to ensure that the road sweepers work through the night to ensure that the area is cleansed.
Litter will not only be cleared from the public highway, as is normal practice, but also from private land and even gardens where access is easily available. Manchester, Rochdale and Bury Council are all working together, crossing boundaries where necessary, to address this key community based issue.
In addition to this, large litter bins will be provided on Bury Old Road outside of the park immediately following each concert and concert goers will be encouraged to dispose of any rubbish at these locations.
The council also has access to a power wash for cleaning purposes if required.
A council spokesperson said: “We have put plans in place to ensure that litter is tackled, but should local residents wish to clear the rubbish on their property themselves they are advised to be cautious as there may be sharp items such as broken bottles. Residents are advised to wear protective gloves and dispose of bottles or cans in their normal blue bins so that these can be collected for recycling”.
“We recognise that excessive noise may be a concern for local residents in close proximity to the park and there is a curfew in place at 11pm. We expect noise levels to be quite loud during the concerts, but council staff will be monitoring it throughout the concerts so that sound engineers at the concert can ensure noise limits are not exceeded”.
Should any local residents wish to contact the council to log complaints about regarding the cleanliness of the area around Heaton Park or have concerns about noise levels throughout the duration of the Oasis concerts they should call the Community Information Hotline on 0161 954 9003.
