The inaugural Prestwich Festival will get underway this weekend with a day of events on Prestwich Clough. The festival, which will run throughout May and June, will kick off with the Prestwich Clough Day on Sunday, May 17, and will feature more than 50.
Festival Organise David Curtis said:
“We’ve got more than 55 events in the programme now and we started with 25. A lot of people have really thrown themselves behind this and we are really pleased with how things are turning out.
“We just really hope that people come out and support what is an important event for Prestwich.”
Among some of the events planned is a farmers’ market at the Longfield Suite, which will also feature a free raffle, Squeaky the clown, children’s fairground rides, a stilt walker, a town crier and a bagpiper.
David said: “It’s going to be a really fun day out for all the family. I think that’s what makes the Prestwich Festival so special, it is a real family programme.”
St Mary’s ward Councillor Donal O’Hanlon said “Seeing thousands of local people out to celebrate Prestwich and the Clough is just fantastic. There’s no better way to kick off the first Prestwich Festival, and I’m sure that thousands more people will be getting involved over the next few weeks.”
Holyrood Councillor Wilf Davison said “I am glad that everyone in Prestwich has something for them almost on their own doorstep. Whether young or old, and whatever anyone’s interests, there’s sure to be something to inspire you to get involved. Look out for the free programme of events that is being delivered to every household in Prestwich.”
Anyone who wants to get involved can call David on: 07875 596 713, or Carran O’Grady on: 0161 253 7245 or email her at: prestwichregeneration@ bury.gov.uk.
